What is 1P-LSD?

The official substance name of 1P-LSD is 1-Propionyl-d-lysergic acid diethylamide, it is a new psychedelic substance from the class of lysergamides. This substance is a derivative and functional analog of the much more known LSD. This means that 1P-LSD is closely related to LSD and produces almost identical effects. Due to the fact that the substance is still fairly new, there is currently little known about the famacology of 1P-LSD. It is hypothesized that the effects are brought about by binding to the serotonin receptors in our brains.

When did 1P-LSD come on the market?

1P-LSD has been sold online as a designer drug and research chemical since 2015, but the original synthesis date of 1P-LSD is unknown. Unlike most research chemicals, 1P-LSD has no documented record in the research literature prior to its emergence on the online research chemical market in 2015. It was marketed as a legal alternative to LSD alongside other new lysergamides such as ALD-52, ETH-LAD and AL-LAD.

What are the effects?

Subjective effects include geometric visual hallucinations, time distortion, enhanced introspection, conceptual thinking, euphoria, and loss of ego. User reports indicate that the subjective effects of 1P-LSD are very similar to those of LSD. This hypothesis is supported by the results of a study showing that 1P-LSD is metabolized to LSD in rats. This predicts a nearly identical effect profile, likely differing primarily in absorption rate and duration. Its classic psychedelic effects and favorable tolerability have led it to become popular among users of new psychoactive substances, who use it interchangeably with LSD.

The properties and risks of 1P-LSD

Very little data exists on the pharmacological properties, metabolism, and toxicity of 1P-LSD. It is assumed to have a similar toxicity and risk profile to LSD, although there are no formal studies proving this. It is strongly recommended that harm reduction practices be employed when using this substance.

Based on its structural similarity to LSD, 1P-LSD likely acts as a partial agonist at the 5-HT2A receptor. It is believed that the psychedelic effects come primarily from its activity at the 5-HT2A receptors distributed throughout the brain. 1P-LSD also likely exhibits binding activity at a wide range of monoamine receptors, such as those for dopamine and norepinephrine. However, there are currently no data to support these claims.

There is a theory that 1P-LSD may act as a prodrug for LSD. Follow-up studies are currently being conducted to compare the affinity and selectivity of LSD and 1P-LSD on 5-HT receptors, and to determine if 1P-LSD is hydrolyzed to LSD in vivo. If not, it is possible that 1P-LSD is capable of exerting its own psychedelic effect. - 1p-lsd compound

Physical, cognitive and visual effects

Fysieke effecten

1P-LSD is usually considered highly energizing and stimulating. For example, when taken in any environment it will usually encourage physical activity such as running, walking, climbing or dancing. In comparison, other more commonly used psychedelics such as psilocybin are generally calming and relaxing.

The “physical high” of 1P-LSD can be characterized as comparatively very intense compared to the accompanying visual and cognitive effects. It behaves as a euphoric, fast-moving, sharp, and site-specific tingling sensation. In some people it manifests spontaneously at various, unpredictable times during the trip, but in most it remains a steady presence that increases with onset and reaches its limit once the peak is reached. At moderate to high doses of 1P-LSD, this sensation often approaches its highest level and can become so overwhelming that people may feel weakened by the pleasurable sensations.

This is generally mild compared to the improvement in endurance caused by traditional stimulants.

Mild nausea is occasionally reported at moderate to high doses and either passes immediately after the user vomits or gradually disappears on its own once the peak begins

  • Appetite suppression
  • Improvement in body control
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Increased heart rate
  • Increased perspiration
  • Muscle contractions
  • Muscle spasms
  • Pupil dilation

Cognitieve effecten

Visual effects

Compared to other psychedelics, this effect is often reported to be brighter, but not as varied.

Compared to other psychedelics, this effect can be described as very detailed, yet cartoonish in its appearance. The distortions are slow and fluid in movement and volatile

The visual geometry of 1P-LSD can be described as more similar to that of 2C-B or 2C-I than to magic mushrooms or DMT. The effects are intricate in complexity, unstructured in organization, brightly lit and colorful.

While 1P-LSD is technically capable of producing hallucinatory states in a manner comparable to psilocin or DMT in its vividness and intensity, these effects are incredibly rare and inconsistent in comparison. While traditional psychedelics such as LSA, ayahuasca, and mescaline almost consistently produce internal hallucinations, this is significantly less the case with 1P-LSD.

1P-LSD combined with other substances

It is not advisable to combine 1P-LSD or any other psychedelic with other substances that influence consciousness. Of course, there have been plenty of people who have done this, so we know roughly what to expect if you do. We have listed them for you.

Combining 1P-LSD with Alcohol

The effects of alcohol can be used to reduce some of the anxiety and feelings of tension caused by using 1P-LSD. On the other hand, alcohol can cause dehydration, nausea and fatigue which can result in a bad trip. If you still like to have a drink during your trip, make sure to stick to a small amount.

Combining 1P-LSD with Cannabis

The use of cannabis during an LSD trip can intensify the sensory and cognitive effects. However, it is advisable to be very careful because combining it with cannabis can increase the chance of negative psychological reactions such as anxiety, confusion and even psychosis. If you do use cannabis during your trip, take it easy and keep longer breaks between your hits to prevent overuse.

1P-LSD combined with MDMA

1P-LSD and MDMA go well together as drugs because they can mutually reinforce each other’s physical, cognitive and visual effects. However, this “cooperation” is unpredictable. So if you do combine these two then be carefull and take a smaller dose then you would normally from both. There is some evidence to suggest that LSD increases the neurtoxicity of MDMA.

Combining 1P-LSD with other psychedelics

When 1P-LSD is used in combination with other psychedelics, the physical, cognitive, and visual effects of 1P-LSD are intensified and greatly enhanced synergistically. If you choose to combine psychedelics, it is recommended to start with significantly lower doses than one would take for either substance separately

Combining 1P-LSD with stimulants

When combined with psychedelics, stimulants can cause severe anxiety, panic attacks, and paranoia.

Toxicity and health effects

Due to the status of 1P-LSD, an investigational chemical, no research has been done on the effects of long-term recreational use. Anecdotal experiences of use suggest that no negative health effects can be attributed to the use of 1P-LSD. The close resemblance to LSD supports these experiences.

Based on this similarity to LSD, it can also be assumed that 1P-LSD is well tolerated physiologically and has extremely low toxicity. Relatively few physical side effects have been reported following use of 1P-LSD. However, as with psychedelics in general, it is likely that 1P-LSD can act as a trigger for people with mental disorders. For these people, we therefore advise against using psychedelics at all.

Can you take a 1P-LSD overdose?

There is no known limit to the dose at which 1P-LSD can become toxic for our body. (Extremely) high doses do increase the risk of adverse psychological reactions. You can think of fears, delusions, panic attacks and psychoses. In most cases medical help is not necessary except for severe psychoses. Administration of antispychotics can help reduce the negative cognitive effects of 1P-LSD.

The addictiveness of 1P-LSD.

As mentioned earlier, no formal studies have been done on 1P-LSD use in humans. Given its close resemblance to LSD, it can be assumed that 1P-LSD is non-addictive and presents a small risk of abuse. There are no literature reports of successful attempts to get animals addicted to LSD which could predict abuse and dependence.

Also, there are virtually no withdrawal symptoms when stopping the structural use of LSD or variants such as 1P-LSD.

After ingestion of 1P-LSD a tolerance is built up almost immediately which is halved after about 5-7 days. After about 2 weeks this tolerance is gone again (as long as nothing more is used after the first use). 1P-LSD also causes a cross-tolerance to other psychedelics which means that other drugs will also have a reduced effect after using 1P-LSD.

Hazardous combinations with 1P-LSD

Although psychedelics are reasonably safe to use on their own, when combined with other substances they can be dangerous or even life-threatening. We mention here a number of known dangerous combinations, this list is absolutely not complete, we would like to strongly recommend not to combine 1P-LSD or other psychedelics with other substances.

For simplicity we assume here that 1P-LSD has a similar if not identical dangerous interaction profile as LSD.

Lithium is commonly prescribed for the treatment of bipolar disorder. There is much anecdotal evidence suggesting that its use along with psychedelics significantly increases the risk of psychosis and seizures. As a result, this combination is strongly discouraged.

Cannabis can have an unexpectedly strong and unpredictable synergy with the effects of 1P-LSD. Caution is advised with this combination as it can significantly increase the risk of adverse psychological reactions such as anxiety, paranoia, panic attacks, and psychosis. Users are advised to start with only a fraction of their normal cannabis dose and take long breaks between hits to avoid unintentional overdose.

Stimulants such as amphetamine, cocaine or methylphenidate affect many parts of the brain and alter dopaminergic function. This combination can increase the risk of anxiety, paranoia, panic attacks, and thought provoking behavior. This interaction may also result in an increased risk of mania and psychosis.

Tramadol is well documented to lower the seizure threshold and psychedelics can trigger seizures in susceptible individuals.

The legal status of 1P-LSD

1P-LSD is not included in the UN Convention on Psychotropic Substances. It is considered to exist in a legal gray area in many countries, meaning that while it is not specifically illegal, individuals can still be charged for its possession under certain circumstances.

Netherlands: Use, possession and production of 1P-LSD is legal in the Netherlands.

Austria: 1P-LSD is not technically illegal, but it may fall under the NPSG (Neue-Psychoaktive-Substanzen-Gesetz Österreich) as an analogue of LSD, making it illegal to supply for human consumption.

Canada: 1P-LSD is not listed in the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, so it is not technically illegal.

Czech Republic: 1P-LSD has been a controlled substance since January 1, 2014.

Denmark: As of August 25, 2015, 1P-LSD is specifically mentioned on the list of illegal substances.
